Maggie O'Keeffe

My work explores the landscape, the weather, the figure, the creative process itself.  For me, a good painting is when I can remain open, curious, and playful for as long as possible...

I was born in Dungarvan, Waterford, close to the sea, on the"sunny" southeast coast of Ireland.

I trained in fine arts at University of Ulster, Belfast, gaining my bachelor’s degree in 1991

In 2003 I moved to the UK and now live in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire...

...far away from the sea, but close to the moorlands and hills of the South Pennines --- as wild and powerful as any ocean.

In 2019 I was extremely proud to have been selected to take part in Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year, thanks to my entry painting "Mind Like Sky".

My paintings are many things...

loose descriptions of places I love

felt experiences of weather and wind

hazy interpretations of blurred horizons and big skies

spilled ink and shaky line drawings

I am happiest when I am able to paint "like no-one is watching", to take risks, be patient, and keep playing...
